AVALANCHE | 2020

This digital artwork was created as part of a New Sun Rising + Riverwise grant cohort collection with the theme “how COVID impacts communities.” “Avalanche” addresses the compound, layered challenges that local marginalized + under-resourced communities are facing during the pandemic, including COVID-19 complications globally, police brutality + social unrest on a national level, plus unhealthy environmental conditions when it comes to local water + air quality in Pittsburgh. Details throughout the piece allude to a snowballing effect, hence the title. The imagery was influenced by observations, conversations, research reports + data via the artist’s residency at UrbanKind Institute. It was selected as 1 of the top 2 works in the collection, awarded with a public wall scape display in Pittsburgh.
