DEFEND THE TITLE
TITLE 9 SPORTS BAR, PITTSBURGH, PA | 2025
Known for creating at the intersection of athletics and art, Young teamed up with the first bar in Pittsburgh to be dedicated to playing women’s sports. While all genders are welcome to watch and support women’s sports on every television, the bar’s name stems from the historic Title IX law passed in 1972 that provides women and girls with equal athletic opportunities in schools.
This indoor, partial-wall mural falls between abstract and familiarity, mixing the artist’s geometric style with the fresh take of the Title 9 space. The design is meant to feel celebratory, fun, and sports oriented. It utilizes Title 9’s brand colors with shapes, patterns and movement that both athletes and fans recognize. The wall alludes to multiple women’s sports, playbooks, the likes of team pennants. Last, but not least, there are notions to the number nine at the focal point – in the tally marks and the Roman numerals at center stage, which doubles as an abstract trophy.
